Wardrobe

Can you guess someone’s age by glancing inside their wardrobe? Can you guess someone’s wealth by the branded clothes they possess? If you looked into mine, there’s not much you’d find— A shirt two sizes small, pants two sizes large, holes that once were a tee worn daily. Souvenirs and mementos ranging from childhood to who I once was, all crammed away from the now. A suit awaiting an opportunity to adorn my skin for decades, a pair of jeans that barely winds up to my waist. Underwear? Let's not go there. But there are other things as well— towels and bedsheets, toothpaste and an emergency kit, old phones and the boxes they came in. It is a container of things I need and things I need to let go, which I’m sure I never will.

Being You

You were once upon a time a miracle on Earth, against all odds, a figment of imagination, a collection of bad days, and losses in every way. Yet you remain kind in an unkind world, possessed by your nature, seeing goodness in everything, even those birthed in evil. How do I become you? Mirror your movements, trace your shadow until it resembles mine. Walk with a face so brave, even fear trembles in its sight. Maybe we could swap places, just for a day, so you can see through my eyes how the world shapes itself for those it deems unworthy of living.
