Lost

It all started a while ago. The rains came and went in a flash. The distant sounds faded second by second. And everything went quiet. That’s when I knew.

Everything went dark, a lull came over, unexpected yet not surprisingly. The air felt heavy, I walked out of my room, each step echoing back to me, a message perhaps.

I opened the door and stepped out. It was quiet. As if life had itself drained away from my surroundings. I looked around for any distant signs of life, there were none to be seen or heard.

No sound of barking dogs, or ambulance sirens signaling the coming of death, no murmur, or whispers of conversations.

Where was I? Am I awake or mindlessly wandering the hallways of my dream. I turned back, thinking it was best to go back home.

Where was I?

Everything around me was surrounded by darkness, the clouds doing their best to hide the moon from my view. Where did my home go?

I tried to retrace my steps, carefully, my footsteps didn’t echo or make any sounds. Did I wander too far? I had only taken a few steps out of my home, it couldn’t be possible.

Did I stumble into another dimension? One where human life wasn’t appreciated, where nothingness existed as far as the eyes could see.

I kept on walking, perhaps a turn here or there, maybe I could meet another lost soul, aimlessly wandering, eager to go back home.

It started raining. The sounds came alive, everything turned bright, or was it just the sound of a vehicle approaching.

I never found out.

  1. Really impressive & expressive. It clearly portrays the mental happenings, mingled thoughts, and then the clarity.
